Happy Memorial Day!
Memorial Day is just around the corner. Many people think of Memorial Day as the unofficial start of summer, but how many of you really know what Memorial Day is all about? It originated after the American Civil War to commemorate the fallen Union soldiers of the Civil War. By the 20th century Memorial Day had been extended to honor all Americans who have died in all wars. Memorial Day is a day of remembering the men and women who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces.
Many people celebrate this holiday by barbecuing with friends and family. When I think of Memorial Day I think of grilled burgers and dogs, cold drinks, impromptu sports games like volley ball, softball, or football played with brothers, sisters, and cousins, or even a day by the lake. I also think of spending time with my closest friends and family sharing laughs, stories, and old memories all the while creating new ones. However you choose to spend this holiday, please take a minute to remember those who gave their time and even their lives fighting for the freedom we have each day. We would not be able to go to the lake, grill those burgers and dogs, or even get together with family if it wasn't for those brave men and women.
